The Rangers addressed their season-long first base issue Thursday by trading for Florida's Jorge Cantu and calling up Mitch Moreland from Class AAA Oklahoma City.

The Rangers agreed to send minor league pitchers Evan Reed and Omar Poveda to Florida for Cantu. Texas also received approximately $2.2 million in cash to offset the increase to the team's payroll. Reed projects as a reliever. Poveda has a high ceiling, but he has missed the entire season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Rangers first basemen, mostly Chris Davis and the recently traded Justin Smoak, entered Thursday with a composite .197 batting average this season. The only team in history to have its first base delegation hit under .200 was the 1991 Oakland A's (.199).
