Cardinals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 02:30:53 PDT

Feeble was about the only word that could be said about the Cardinals' attack against New York knuckleballer R.A. Dickey on Thursday. St. Louis had only one walk and three hits off Dickey until the ninth inning, when pinch hitter Colby Rasmus singled and Jon Jay walked.

At that point, Francisco Rodriguez entered the game for the third day in a row and easily disposed of Albert Pujols on a fly to center and put an end to Matt Holliday's 13-game hitting streak by freezing Holliday on a called third strike. It was the 10th shutout of the season for the Cardinals, nine of them on the road.

Blake Hawksworth was better than he had been lately as the Cardinals' starter. But Hawksworth surrendered a three-run homer on a changeup to New York rookie Ike Davis in the third inning.

Roy Oswalt granted his own wish: He's now part of a pennant race. Miguel Tejada, Jorge Cantu and Matt Capps joined the mix, too. The trade wheel of fortune kept spinning Thursday with veterans-for-prospects deals that typically dot the stretch run. More swaps were expected before Saturday's 4 p.m.

Dickey, Davis lead Mets past Cardinals 4-0 (AP)
Thu, 29 Jul 2010 13:55:19 PDT
R.A. Dickey has been up and down from the minors, bouncing from one city to another while pitching for four big league teams over the past five years. Imagine where the New York Mets would be without him. Dickey took a three-hitter into the ninth inning and rookie Ike Davis hit a three-run homer Thursday in a 4-0 win over the St.

Pujols comes through as Cards beat Mets in 13 (AP)
Wed, 28 Jul 2010 21:47:39 PDT
Albert Pujols had the 20-inning marathon that the St. Louis Cardinals played against the Mets earlier this year in the back of his mind when he stepped to the plate in a tie game Wednesday night. It was already the 13th inning, and with a day game on the horizon, the big slugger wanted nothing more than to drive in a run and head for bed.

Cardinals call on MacDougal for bullpen help (AP)
Wed, 28 Jul 2010 14:50:21 PDT
The St. Louis Cardinals purchased the contract of right-hander Mike MacDougal from Triple-A Memphis before their game Wednesday night against the New York Mets. MacDougal was 2-0 with one save and a 3.86 ERA in eight games for Memphis, after starting the season in the Washington Nationals system. MacDougal saved 20 games for the Nationals last year, and was an All-Star for the Kansas City Royals in...

Beltran wrecks Wainwright, Mets beat Cardinals 8-2 (AP)
Tue, 27 Jul 2010 20:23:35 PDT
Rather than rehash the curveball that froze him so long ago, Carlos Beltran focused on the current task -- getting hits off Adam Wainwright, and getting the New York Mets back into the race. Beltran gained a small measure of revenge against Wainwright and the Mets suddenly broke loose Tuesday night, roughing up the St.

Lopez hits go-ahead HR as Cardinals beat Cubs (AP)
Sun, 25 Jul 2010 22:05:41 PDT
Felipe Lopez was simply trying to get on base when he hit his go-ahead homer. Lopez hit a tie-breaking solo shot in the 11th inning to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Sunday night and avoid a weekend sweep. "Games like these we have to find a way to win because the other team isn't going to let up," he said.

Although the Chicago Cubs might be too far gone to be big winners this season, rookies Starlin Castro, Tyler Colvin and Andrew Cashner have the team excited about their future. When scouting St. Louis hitters, Randy Wells didn't bother watching videotape of his previous outing against the Cardinals. Herzog was tough act to follow with Cardinals (AP)
Fri, 23 Jul 2010 13:50:52 PDT
Tightlipped and terse, Tony La Russa was a big change from Whitey Herzog when he joined the St. Louis Cardinals in 1996. In his first 14 seasons, La Russa produced eight postseason appearances and a World Series championship. He's the franchise's winningest manager. Loosened up some, too. All of that is good for second place in the hearts and minds of the team's fan base who cannot forget...
