Mariners Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) The worst of the Mariners' season has U.S. Cellular Field as bookends. On the morning of April 23, the Mariners were tied for first place in the American League West and feeling pretty good about themselves as they started a three-game road series against the White Sox. In the first two games, the Mariners lost on two-run, ninth-inning homers. In Game 3, a tiebreaking eighth-inning homer did in the Mariners. Fast forward to this week when the Mariners came in dead last in the AL West with the season up in flames. Seattle went 0-4 and couldn't keep the White Sox from rallying time and again. The losing was the same; only the margin of defeat was different. Chicago outscored the Mariners 32-11 in the series. The only good thing the Mariners can say about...

Castro 2 homers, Sox win 11th straight at home (AP)
Thu, 29 Jul 2010 21:16:31 PDT
Seven weeks ago, the Chicago White Sox wondered if they'd ever stop losing. These days, they're playing as if the winning will never end -- especially at home. Ramon Castro homered twice and Paul Konerko went deep for the fourth straight game Thursday night, leading Chicago to its 11th consecutive home victory, 9-5 over the Seattle Mariners.

Bobby Jenks just overpowered the heart of Seattle's lineup, firing fastball after fastball into A.J. Pierzynski's mitt as the crowd roared. Just another fun night at home for the Chicago White Sox. Alex Rios hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh inning, Jenks struck out the side for an electric save and the slugging White Sox rallied to beat the Mariners 6-5 on Wednesday night for...
HP umpire Runge leaves Mariners-White Sox game (AP)
Wed, 28 Jul 2010 18:35:34 PDT
Home plate umpire Brian Runge has left the Seattle Mariners-Chicago White Sox game. Before the top of the third, the umpires huddled with a White Sox trainer before Runge and second-base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt left the field through a tunnel behind the plate. About 10 minutes later, Wendelstedt returned wearing a chest protector and took over behind the plate.

Mariners left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained lower back, one day after he tied a franchise record for runs allowed by a starting pitcher. Manager Don Wakamatsu said Rowland-Smith admitted his back was bothering him following Tuesday night's 11-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox and it was affecting his mechanics a little bit.

Ramirez helps White Sox pound Mariners 11-0 (AP)
Tue, 27 Jul 2010 20:46:14 PDT
Alexei Ramirez loves these warm summer nights, when it feels like a sauna outside. It takes him back to his native Cuba. It's no coincidence that the White Sox infielder is beginning to heat up at the plate. Ramirez, Andruw Jones and Paul Konerko homered, powering Gavin Floyd and Chicago to an 11-0 victory over the woeful Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

Saunders comes through again as M's top Red Sox (AP)
Sun, 25 Jul 2010 17:39:26 PDT
In the continuing challenge to develop young talent, the thought of pinch-hitting for Michael Saunders never crossed the mind of Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu even with Boston lefty Hideki Okajima on the mound and a trio of right-handed bats on the bench. The Red Sox may be cursing Saunders for some time to come.

Chone Figgins was in the Seattle Mariners lineup Saturday, a day after his very public dugout scuffle with manager Don Wakamatsu, although answers about the intense fifth-inning conflict were scarce. The Mariners closed the clubhouse for nearly 30 minutes before Saturday's game against Boston for a team meeting that featured coaches and players.
Saunders homer sparks Seattle rally past Boston (AP)

The zero that remained on the scoreboard as Boston's Jon Lester kept rolling through Seattle's offense was certainly being noticed in the Mariners dugout. "We were all talking about it trying to jinx it," Seattle left fielder Michael Saunders said. Saunders' bat became the answer to Lester's no-hit bid.

Beckett strong in DL return, Red Sox beat M's (AP)
Fri, 23 Jul 2010 23:21:32 PDT
Josh Beckett thought he was initially "methodical" in his return from two months on the disabled list. These days, methodical is plenty good enough to beat the bickering Mariners. They are beating on each other inside their own dugout. Beckett was in command in his 5 2-3-inning return from a low back strain, and Bill Hall homered in the seventh inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1...
