The worst of the Mariners' season has U.S. Cellular Field as bookends.

On the morning of April 23, the Mariners were tied for first place in the American League West and feeling pretty good about themselves as they started a three-game road series against the White Sox.

In the first two games, the Mariners lost on two-run, ninth-inning homers. In Game 3, a tiebreaking eighth-inning homer did in the Mariners.

Fast forward to this week when the Mariners came in dead last in the AL West with the season up in flames. Seattle went 0-4 and couldn't keep the White Sox from rallying time and again.

The losing was the same; only the margin of defeat was different. Chicago outscored the Mariners 32-11 in the series.

The only good thing the Mariners can say about...

Home plate umpire Brian Runge has left the Seattle Mariners-Chicago White Sox game. Before the top of the third, the umpires huddled with a White Sox trainer before Runge and second-base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt left the field through a tunnel behind the plate.
