Roy Oswalt saw an out and took it.

Presented with a potential trade to the Phillies, Oswalt waived his no-trade clause Thursday, clearing the way for the Astros to send him to Philadelphia in exchange for pitcher J.A. Happ and two prospects, center fielder Anthony Gose and shortstop Jonathan Villar.

The Astros traded Gose to the Blue Jays for first base prospect Brett Wallace.

Oswalt, 32, leaves the Astros as one of the club's all-time great pitchers and one win short of tying Joe Niekro's club record for wins. He was to go for the record-tying win Friday against the Brewers. Instead Oswalt will debut with the Phillies at Washington.

"It's tough to leave Houston," Oswalt told the Houston Chronicle, "but I'm going to a good situation."
