Starting in 1993 as an expansion franchise, the Marlins are a member of the Eastern Division of the MLB's National League. The Marlins play their home games at Dolphin Stadium,in Miami, which also happens to be the home of the National Football League Miami Dolphins. The Marklins nickname "The Fish."
The Marlins won the World Series twice, both in 1997 and again in 2003. Its an amazing accomplishment for a new expansion team. That coincidently is the only two times the Marlins have made it to the postseason. They won despite never winning first place in their division, advancing to the playoffs both times as the National League Wild Card winner. They are the only team to have won all of their postseason series to date.
The Marlins are slated to get their own, new baseball facility's in 2012 on the site of the Miami Orange Bowl. The new baseball stadium will cost in excess of $515 million. Since the Miami-Dade commissioners have supported the funding deal, the team will be known in the futre as the "Miami Marlins." The 2011 season will be their last at Miami Stadium.
