Ubaldo Jimenez took the mound Thursday hoping to end the Rockies' season-high eight-game losing streak and to reverse his fortunes. He succeeded on both counts.

Jimenez was coming off his shortest start of the season—two innings Saturday at Philadelphia. He was 2-1 with a 7.64 ERA in his past six starts dating to June 23. In his first two starts since the All-Star break, Jimenez had pitched a total of 7 1/3 innings and allowed 12 runs, 10 earned.

Thanks to better mechanics and a mind-set of throwing with an easier motion rather than trying to unleash every last ounce of power, Jimenez improved to 16-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.67 by holding the Pirates to four hits and one run in seven innings during a 9-3 win.

Colorado Rockies pitcher Huston Street was hit in the right pelvic area by a line drive in batting practice and taken off the field in an ambulance. The team said he was sent home to rest and his availability will be on a day-to-day basis. After being hit, Street was taken by ambulance to an emergency room for further examination.
