An early injury to his starting pitcher put Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta in a bind on Thursday night.

Indians Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 02:30:49 PDT

The Indians only managed six hits in an 11-4 loss to the Yankees on Thursday, but one of the hits was a single by Jayson Nix. Prior to the game, manager Manny Acta announced that Nix would be the team's new third baseman.

The position opened up Wednesday, when Cleveland traded third baseman Jhonny Peralta to Detroit. Nix had played second base exclusively for the Indians since they claimed him off waivers from the White Sox on June 24.

However, Nix does have some experience playing third base. Prior to Thursday, he had started 20 games at third base during his career, including 12 games this year for the White Sox.

Acta said Nix would get the first crack to claim the job, but there are some other options.
