Cubs Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 02:30:48 PDT

The Cubs' roster figures to undergo a shakeup in the coming days.

The first order of business is the return, such as it is, of pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the team.

Zambrano has not been with his teammates since he engaged in a dugout tirade June 25 after he had just given up four runs to the White Sox in the first inning. The Cubs sent Zambrano home, suspended him and then sent him for anger-management treatment.

On Friday in Denver, Zambrano will face his teammates, apologize and then head to the bullpen. A roster move will have to be made to accommodate Zambrano. The Cubs could release veteran reliever Bob Howry, who has been hit hard of late, or they could send a young reliever, such as Brian Schlitter or Justin Berg, to the minor leagues.

Brett Myers has pitched so well all season that Houston Astros manager Brad Mills couldn't say if the right-hander's complete game Tuesday night was his best work of the year. Lance Berkman hit his first grand slam since 2008 to back Myers and the Astros beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1. It is the 10th career complete game for Myers (8-6) and his first since May.

Five no-hitters -- two of them perfect games -- and another gem that was spoiled by an umpire. By now, San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow and others around baseball are beginning to expect a piece of pitching history every week. "I do. I can't explain it," said Krukow, who pitched in the majors from 1976-89.
